Warning: One shot.  Not beta'd so all mistakes are my own. A "what if" story.

The Dark Forest remained quiet as Harry slowly made his way towards his death, his destiny. As he walked further into the forest the sound of fighting faded away. His thoughts were jumbled with anger and remorse, anger towards Dumbledore for leaving him when Harry truly needed him. Whereas, Harry's remorse went to Snape, the man who made his school years a living hell, the man who was a double agent, the man whose loyalty solely belong to Albus Dumbledore, but most of all, for the man who loved Lily Potter unconditionally.

“I hope you can forgive me Professor Snape, for everything that I did.” Harry said.

Harry stopped walking, looking around him Harry sat down on an uprooted tree limb. Sighing Harry leaned over heavily just as tears silently fell from his face. Slowly reaching into his pocket Harry pulled out the Resurrection Stone, holding it up he gazed at it for several seconds. Closing his eyes Harry turned the stone over three times and at that exact moment a faint rustling sound filled the air.

Slowly Harry opened his eyes and found himself staring at black pointed shoes. Moving his gaze up he finally connected eyes with Severus Snape.

“I hope you have a perfectly good reason for calling me here Potter, even in death you somehow manage to make my life even harder.” Snape said.

“I just wanted to apologize for everything I did. I hope you can forgive me Professor Snape for not trusting you, fo-for not being able to save you,” said Harry.

For the first time in many years Snape was taken by surprise by the young Gryffindor's words. This certainly couldn't be the same Harry Potter that had been the thorn in his side. Looking at the young man in front of him Snape was able to speak once again, “There's nothing to forgive Potter, I made a promise to protect you and I did. I gave you no reason to trust me when I was alive, so don't go blaming yourself. As for trying to save my life that is not your fault Potter.”

“I could of saved you! I was right there in the Shrinking Shack when Voldemort had Nagini bite you, but I was afraid to do anything about it.” Harry cried out.

Shaking his head Severus knelt in front of Harry and placed his ghostly transparent hand on the young man's shoulder.

“I'm glad that you stayed hidden Har-Potter,” seeing that the young man was about to interrupt him Snape raised his other hand gesturing Harry to let him finish, “as I was saying I'm glad you stayed hidden because in the end you saved my life, you freed me Potter. I will forever be grateful for what you did for me.”

Harry was shocked as he listened to Snape, staring at the man before him Harry couldn't help but give him a small smile.

“I'd be careful Professor some people might think you've gone soft.” Harry said.

“Well then I better stop, I may be dead but I still have a reputation to uphold,” replied Snape as he stood up.

Feeling somewhat better Harry stood up as well returning the Resurrection Stone to his pocket Harry looked up at Snape and quietly asked, “Would you walk with me Professor Snape?”

Nodding his head Snape gestured for Harry to take the lead. Slowly both student and professor walked in silence towards certain danger. For several minutes neither spoke until finally they came upon Aragog's former home.

“Well I guess this it,” Harry said.

Looking at the young man next to him Severus replied, “I'm regret that I cannot follow you Po-Harry, but I assure that you won't be alone.”

Turing to Snape, Harry gave him a smirk and said, “You know that's the first time you ever called me Harry,” Harry began to quietly laugh before continuing, “you really have gone soft sir.”

“Potter...” Snape said haughtily.

Shaking his head Harry quickly replied, “Just warning you if by some miracle I survive I'm going to have name one of my future children Severus,” Harry grinned as he saw a look horror appear on Snape's face, “goodbye Professor Snape.” Just like that Harry disappeared from Snape's sight.

Shaking away the horrid look on his face Snape looked at the path where Harry disappeared from. Sighing heavily Snape walked in the opposite direction, slowly Snape began to fade, but not before saying one last thing.

“Goodbye Harry and I am honored to be your future sons namesake.”
